Area of expertise
N.A. Bokhan is a famous Russian scientist in the area of clinical psychiatry and addiction psychiatry, which relevance as a united scientific specialty acquires an extraordinary social significance in current conditions. He made a major contribution to scientific justification and systematic development of the problem of clinical heterogeneity and psychiatric comorbidity of addictive states, the study of the ethnoterritorial patterns of the formation of the actual drug use situation, and clinical typology of penitentiary desadaptation of drug addicted minors; the determination of the pathogenetic role of comorbid factors of the individual variability of the pathological endophenotype and metabolic disadaptation in progression of dependence syndrome and its neurovisceral complications under alcoholism; the basic evaluation of the factors of predisposition and molecular targets of realization of toxicogenic effects of ethanol and mechanisms of formation of the imbalance of pro- and antioxidant systems in the conditions of the oxidative stress in patients with alcohol dependence. Novel data on ways and types of oxidative damaging the membranous proteins and lipids under ethanol and its metabolite acetaldehyde in vitro and in vivo have been obtained.
To prevent dependence early based on proposed concept of sensory vulnerability of substance users, psychophysiologic and immune-biochemical predictors of the individual predisposition to the development of the pathological craving were determined with elaboration of an olfactory test-system for evaluation of predisposition and risk for the development of dependence in various social groups. Based on the studied mechanisms of the dysfunction of the homeostatic regulation in the conditions of a chronic intoxication with ethanol, the adjuvant therapeutic algorithms of a personified use of detoxifying composites, immunomodulators and natural antioxidants have been proposed. For the first time, new non-medication strategies of therapy of alcoholism based on the biological effects of a millimeter emission of non-thermal intensity and adaptive neurobiofeedback.
