Brief Biography
Anton Markov was born in 1988. He graduated with honors in 2011 from the Medical and Biological Faculty of the Siberian State Medical University. From 2011 to 2014 he was trained in graduate school of the Scientific Research Institute of Medical Genetics. Since 2014 he worked as a junior researcher at the Laboratory of Population Genetics. In 2015 he defended his PhD thesis for the degree of candidate of medical sciences, specializing in genetics. In 2016 he graduated from internship with the specialty of "clinical laboratory diagnostics". Since September 2016, he is a research scientist at the Laboratory of Population Genetics.
Research Interests
Area of research interest of A.V. Markov is genetics and epigenetics of cardiovascular diseases. The main scientific topic at present is the study of the contribution of genetic and epigenetic factors to the development of atherosclerotic lesions in human arteries and its consequences. In addition, A.V. Markov studies the application of modern methods of biostatistics and bioinformatics to solve a wide range of issues in human genetics. A.V. Markov is the author and co-author of one software and more than 85 publications.
Achievements, awards, and grants
A.V. Markov participates in scientific research with the support of Russian and foreign scientific foundations: the Russian Science Foundation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Grant Council of the President of the Russian Federation, and the Federal Target Programs. He is a head of the project in the investigation of DNA methylation profiles in various cell types which constitute either normal vascular wall or atherosclerotic lesion of coronary artery. There are several research works are being carried out with the participation of A.V. Markov dedicated to: the role of epigenetic factors (DNA methylation, microRNAs) in the development and complication of atherosclerosis; participation of fibrogenesis genes in various human pathologies; changes in the transcriptome of placental tissues of individuals from different ethnic groups with preeclampsia; development of innovative genogeographic and genomic identification technologies, and others.
The studies of A.V. Markov was awarded with the diploma of the Scientific Research Institute of Medical Genetics "For conscientious work and high professionalism" (2013, 2014), the diploma of the Laureate of the Small Prize for 2013 "of the International Academic Publishing Company "Nauka/Interperiodika" for the best publication in its published journals, Winner of the young scientist contest of the 10th Scientific Conference "Human Genetics and Pathology: Problems of Evolutionary Medicine" (2015), grant of the President of the Russian Federation (2018-2020).
