The Tomsk National Research Medical Center’s Mental Health Research Institute is a leader in the field of psychiatry and addiction medicine, representing the only scientific, educational, and practical complex in this field in the Eastern region of Russia. It coordinates research in psychiatry and addiction medicine, as well as implements scientific advances into healthcare practice. The institute’s staff includes specialists representing key areas of clinical and basic psychiatry, addiction medicine, and medical psychology. The research results of the Mental Health Research Institute confirm the institute’s high scientific potential, the wide range of basic research conducted, focused on current issues in psychiatry, addiction medicine, and psychotherapy, and the integrative focus of its research, which prioritizes a systems approach to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with mental and behavioral disorders.

The Institute’s mission and activities focus on conducting fundamental, exploratory, and applied preclinical and clinical research in the fields of pharmacology and regenerative medicine. This involves identifying promising pharmacological targets and developing new medicinal products aimed at reducing morbidity and improving quality of life, work capacity, and active longevity.

Study of prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders in the region of Siberia, Far East and Far North;
Study of pathogenesis of main mental and behavioral disorders;
Development and implementation of new methods and technologies of diagnostics, therapy and prevention of mental and behavioral disorders;
Development of scientific foundations for organization and improvement of specialized psychiatric, narcological, psychotherapeutic and medical-psychological assistance to the population of Siberia, Far East and Far North.

Currently, fundamental and applied research (including clinical studies) is being conducted in the following priority areas

Pharmacological reprogramming of the processes involved in the repair of tissues affected by pathological conditions and in cellular senescence, including through the modulation of drug biotransformation and pharmacokinetics;

Educidation of the principles and mechanisms governing the function of regeneration-competent cells and the development of novel approaches to the epigenetic regulation of their activity, aimed at stimulating tissue repair and correcting the processes of organismal aging;

Identification of potential targets by studying the pathogenesis of socially significant diseases, and the development—based on these targets—of new multimodal drugs of natural and synthetic origin, including those produced using genomic, post-genomic, bio-, and nanotechnologies;

Study of the mechanisms and patterns underlying the development of dysregulatory diseases, and the search for and investigation of new pharmacologically active substances for their prevention and treatment;

Conducting clinical studies aimed at generating new knowledge regarding the etiology, pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment of socially significant diseases, in order to develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, evaluate them, and subsequently translate them into clinical practice;

Conducting preclinical and clinical (phases I, II, III, and IV) studies of new (including generic) medicinal products; conducting trials (including clinical trials) of dietary supplements, functional foods, methods (agents) for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, non-pharmacological treatment methods, medical devices and diagnostic agents, and personal hygiene products; and conducting work to assess their quality and compliance with established standards.
